The ColonyStar automatic device from Funke-Gerber is equipped with a camera and a cordless, detachable tablet, which makes the analysis of Petri dishes fast and straightforward. With the assist mode, after tapping on a colony via touchscreen, other colonies of the same type are automatically recorded, marked, and counted. The selection can be corrected at any time. In this way, the lab worker retains full control while also achieving significant time savings. In addition to the assist mode, the system can still be trained to identify selected colonies so that fully automatic colony counts can be conducted on predefined samples.

Hygiena™ has announced over 14 protocols for quantification applications (SalQuant™ and CampyQuant™) using the BAX® System Real-Time (RT) PCR Assays for Salmonella and Campylobacter. In addition to knowing if the pathogen is present, these methods accurately quantify Salmonella or Campylobacter levels when used with the BAX System Q7 and shortened enrichment. No additional kits or components are required—only the BAX System RT PCR Assay for Salmonella (KIT2006) or the BAX System RT PCR Assay for Campylobacter jejuni/coli/lari (KIT2018). In the case of Salmonella, over 14 different matrix protocols can be analyzed after shortened enrichment. For Campylobacter, the shortest method previously available was an MPN-based method requiring long labor hours and many steps during sample prep. These changes in determining pathogen levels (rather than presence/absence) earned Hygiena the 2021 IAFP Food Safety Innovation Award.

Activated by water or moisture, PeraGuard is a highly concentrated, odorless, and dustless application that is effective against Escherichia coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and many other pathogens.
To help combat necrotic enteritis (NE) in flocks, poultry producers can implement Inteprity from Elanco for extended feeding programs, which helps support healthier birds, better profitability, and healthier choices. The animal-use-only, in-feed antibiotic has a variety of benefits, including reducing rotational frequency with multiple cycles. Field trial research shows that poultry producers can use Inteprity for multiple cycles to prevent the mortality caused by NE and improve Intestinal Integrity (I2) scores without losing efficacy or risking resistance, compared to frequent rotations. The same data shows key lesion scores improved by using Inteprity for multiple cycles (18 months).

The M30 R-Series metal detection system’s digital platform, SENSE™, combined with advanced algorithms, makes it possible to deliver high sensitivity to all metal contaminant types with minimal false rejects. The entry-level M30 R-series GC systems are designed on a modular platform concept with streamlined features as standard. The metal detector and conveyor can be easily upgraded as compliance or production requirements change. The system has a rugged, industrial design and offers three levels of ingress protection from IP65 to IP69K. The M30 R-Series consists of four metal detector models matched to different production and compliance needs, as well as budget considerations: M31R StandardLine, M33R PlusLine, M33RB PlusLine, and M34R PlusLine. The metal detectors also can be integrated with a wide range of conveyor systems, including Mettler-Toledo’s enhanced GC Series systems.

SpotSee has released its ‘Do Not Refreeze’ label to ensure food quality and safety throughout the supply chain and within commercial food environments. Once food has gone through a freeze/thaw cycle, the quality and/or safety of food can be compromised if it is refrozen. After placing the ‘Do Not Refreeze’ label on the packaging, if the temperature drops below –15 °C/5 °F, the text turns dark blue and alerts handlers that the product cannot be frozen again.
The SECUMAX 150 MDP extends MARTOR’s family of metal-detectable safety knives. The knives remain detectable if lost—even the smallest parts—and, therefore, have no long-term adverse impacts on sensitive production processes. Weighing only 31 grams, the SECUMAX 150 MDP is made of plastic that is metal- and X-ray-detectable. The SECUMAX 150 MDP is also safe when cutting. Its concealed blade means that the sharp cutting edge never gets too close to either its user or the packaged goods. The outer blade area, used for scraping off labels and splitting adhesive tape, is also non-sharp.
