Microban International has partnered with Calphalon brand to develop a range of kitchen knives with built-in antimicrobial product protection. Calphalon Classic™ and Select by Calphalon™ knife sets now have specifically formulated Microban SilverShield® technology built into the handle of each knife, helping provide antimicrobial product protection.
Madison Chemical has introduced ProClean FOAM SAFE, a chlorinated, alkaline, general-purpose foaming cleaner that performs well in most water conditions. When used in a "foam generator" as a one-package cleaner, it produces thick, stable, wet foam necessary for cleaning surfaces used in food and beverage processing, without dry-out or run-off. It cleans all stainless, aluminum, and zinc alloys, particularly vertical and overhead surfaces, and those not easily cleaned by other methods.
Thermoforming packaging specialist Waddington Europe, a division of Novolex, has introduced a recyclable tray for meat, fish, and poultry (MFP) products. The container, called Piranha™, is sealed using a series of raised teeth that run around the sealing flange instead of applying a layer of polyethylene or adhesive, which are typically used to seal the lid of modified atmosphere packaging. The raised teeth maintain the seal's integrity even if the flange becomes contaminated by animal fat, which can interfere with closure on traditional packaging for MFP products.

In a space-saving product inspection innovation, Fortress Technology has custom-engineered a unique twin-aperture Stealth metal detector and dual-lane Raptor 200 checkweigher for a North American dairy company. The twin-lane conveyor configuration offers a customized solution by consolidating a single metal detector that is uniquely divided into two smaller, dedicated apertures that act as independent metal detectors. It also features two independent weight verification Raptor checkweighers for optimized quality control.

SpotSee has released its ‘Do Not Refreeze’ label to ensure food quality and safety throughout the supply chain and within commercial food environments. Once food has gone through a freeze/thaw cycle, the quality and/or safety of food can be compromised if it is refrozen. After placing the ‘Do Not Refreeze’ label on the packaging, if the temperature drops below –15 °C/5 °F, the text turns dark blue and alerts handlers that the product cannot be frozen again.
The SECUMAX 150 MDP extends MARTOR’s family of metal-detectable safety knives. The knives remain detectable if lost—even the smallest parts—and, therefore, have no long-term adverse impacts on sensitive production processes. Weighing only 31 grams, the SECUMAX 150 MDP is made of plastic that is metal- and X-ray-detectable. The SECUMAX 150 MDP is also safe when cutting. Its concealed blade means that the sharp cutting edge never gets too close to either its user or the packaged goods. The outer blade area, used for scraping off labels and splitting adhesive tape, is also non-sharp.

Anysort U.S.A. is offering a new, cloud-based sorting machine with Hawk-Eye recognition technology and shape-sorting automation for in-shell walnuts and peanuts, the TK64. It is also showcasing an infrared color sorter with Hawk-Eye recognition technology for kernels of walnuts, pecans, almonds, and pistachios, the VR164+. The TK64 presents high-dimensional material fingerprint perception technology, high-definition image acquisition, and bud location analysis technology. The cloud-based VR164+ offers international advanced multi-spectral analysis technology, along with Hawk-Eye recognition technology and intelligent shape-sorting automation. The VR164+ can accurately recognize and remove plastic particles, glass, animal waste, insects, sunflower gum, and other malignant impurities.

Tessco Systems offers an antimicrobial technology in its pallets that is not a surface application coating but an intrinsic additive that is embedded throughout the pallet polymer and provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection that won’t rub, scratch, or wash off. Tested and proven at extreme cold and hot temperatures, these pallets help actively reduce bacteria, fungi, and yeasts by up to 99.99 percent.
Belt Technologies Inc. designs and manufactures solid stainless steel belts and conveyor systems that help robotic technologies perform in the grocery and warehouse sectors reliably and efficiently. Their high tensile strength makes them exceptionally resilient and helps prevent jams in robotic automation and dependably perform tasks that demand rapid acceleration, precise positioning, and repetition. Steel belts also do not stretch or elongate and can withstand extreme environments. They are also sanitary and easy to clean, making them ideal for use in the warehouse and grocery sectors, where hygiene is a critical issue.
Hygiena has announced the release of GlutenTox ELISA Rapid G12, an improved test for the most immunotoxic peptide in gluten. The test provides more accurate results in less time than either previous versions or competitors’ ELISA tests for gluten and offers fast, convenient, and accurate measurement of gluten down to 0.6 ppm (0.3 ppm of gliadin).
Industrial Magnetics Inc. recently introduced the Spout Line Inspection Magnet (SLIM™) for processors who require simple and frequent sampling of the product stream at designated inspection points on the line. Intended for use with a comprehensive foreign contamination-detection program, the SLIM inspection magnets can be strategically placed at multiple locations throughout the process stream, such as discharge points of mixers, sifters, and screws, to help pinpoint the origin of any ferrous metal contamination.
NaturArk, a supplier of scientifically studied and validated ingredients for the human nutrition and food and beverage industries, has announced the launch of its Endophyllene® phyto-cannabinoid ingredient. A natural endo-cannabinoid agonist of the CB2 cannabinoid receptor, Endophyllene delivers a high concentration of the natural compound beta-caryophyllene. It is available as a highly purified black pepper extract in two forms: a powdered extract containing 30 percent beta-caryophyllene, which is ideal for tablets, capsules, and sachets, and an oil-based extract containing 80 percent beta-caryophyllene, which is well-suited as a straight drop in soft-gelatin capsules or liquid formulations.
SnapDNA has announced the first culture-independent, rapid pathogen-analysis platform. TrueRapid™ detects only live cells and works with standard, industry-accepted environmental samples collected from all surfaces. It provides quantitative results with a total time-to-results of 20 minutes with less than 5 minutes of hands-on time. The platform is designed to be used on-site by minimally trained personnel and without additional equipment or specialized facilities.
Madison Chemical has introduced DART 444, a chlorinated, moderately alkaline detergent designed as a one-package, general-purpose foaming cleaner that performs well in most water conditions. When used in a “foam generator,” it produces a thick, stable, wet foam without dry-out or runoff. It is ideal for cleaning vertical, overhead surfaces, especially machinery surfaces that are difficult to clean by any other methods. It rinses easily and without streaking and is acceptable for use in food and beverage plants as an A1 general cleaning agent on all surfaces, or with steam or mechanical cleaning in all departments. It is proven effective in food and beverage processing facilities, specifically dough mixers, mixing tanks, and conveyor lines.
